About Patient Involvement for Translational Research
Involving patients and caregivers in the development of medical products is an important factor in moving those products into clinical care. The Patient Involvement for Translational Research project was established to identify ways by which patient engagement could be achieved. Within the framework of the project, the University of Twente and Radboudumc studied various models of patient involvement that could be suitable for translational research. This resulted in a guide for project coordinators. In addition, one methodology was developed specifically for translational research, regarding molecular diagnostic applications. Throughout the study CTMM – now part of Lygature – was closely involved to ensure that the program ran smoothly.
Outputs from the study included:
- A step-by-step patient involvement guide that can be used during current projects or when preparing future project proposals (in Dutch) (download pdf)
- A method to help patients have their say (in Dutch): ‘De Stem van de Patiënten’ (download pdf)
- Scientific publication ‘The Benefits of Patient Involvement for Translational Research’ (download pdf)
The outcomes of the Patient Involvement of Translational Research project directly contribute to Lygature’s mission of driving the development of medical solutions that result in patient benefits.
