GNA NOW Expert Meeting on Antibiotics for Severe Enteric Infections
Lygature's GNA NOW Consortium, in collaboration with CARB-X, is gearing up to host an Expert Meeting focused on developing a Target Product Profile (TPP) for antibiotics to treat severe enteric infections in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The meeting will take place on 17 September in Porto, Portugal. It follows the Consortium's Annual Meeting on 16 September and precedes another prominent event in the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) space – the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Conference, running from 17-20 September, also in Porto.
The Expert Meeting will engage specialists in defining a TPP for antibiotics targeting bacterial enteric infections, specifically E. coli, Shigella, Salmonella, and Campylobacter, which are major health concerns in LMICs, particularly among young children. The two-hour session will feature a panel discussion and active audience participation, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to TPP development. The aim is for the outcomes of the Expert Meeting to be summarized and disseminated through a scientific publication.
The session will be chaired by Erin Duffy of CARB-X. The panelists include:

Raising global awareness of AMR
2024 is a pivotal year for addressing AMR, a critical global public health threat often referred to as the silent pandemic. The UN General Assembly will convene a High-Level Meeting on AMR in New York in September, underscoring the urgent need for innovative strategies to combat this growing concern.
AMR disproportionately impacts the least developed nations, highlighting the necessity for expanded access to effective antibiotics for high unmet medical needs in these geographies. Lygature, as a coordinating partner of the GNA NOW Consortium, is proud to be playing a role in the global effort to combat AMR, specifically addressing infections that affect the world's youngest and most vulnerable populations.
