GNA NOW symposium to explore next steps in enteric antibacterial development
Researchers, clinicians, industry representatives and global health experts will come together in Lisbon on 22 September 2026 for the GNA NOW Symposium: Next Steps in Enteric Antibacterial Development: Evidence, Gaps & Actions, held immediately before the opening of the Global AMR Innovation and R&D Conference (GAMRIC).
Building on the first GNA NOW expert meeting, held in Porto in 2024, this year's symposium continues the project's efforts to bring together leading experts to identify priorities for advancing the development of new treatments for severe enteric infections.
The one-hour symposium will examine current progress in the development of new antibiotics for severe enteric infections while identifying the scientific and translational gaps that continue to limit progress. The program includes presentations on recent updates to the GNA NOW Target Product Profile, new insights into correlations between in vitro and in vivo preclinical enteric disease models, and an expert panel discussion on future priorities for antibiotic development.
The session will feature contributions from project partners:

It will also feature a panel discussion chaired by Richard Alm (CARB-X), with panelists representing academia, industry and global health organizations:

- Sumathi Nambiar, Johnson & Johnson
- David Paterson, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, Singapore
- Alasdair MacGowan (North Bristol NHS Trust)

The symposium is open to delegates attending GAMRIC in person.
Although the session will not be livestreamed, it will be recorded. The recording, together with key discussion highlights, will be shared after the event.
