IHI introduces extended deadline for single-stage call

The European Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) just launched Call 4 and Call 5 for cross-sector collaborative research projects in the life sciences. Especially relevant are the deadlines: for the two-stage call the deadline is 8 November 2023, for the single-stage call the deadline is 16 January 2024. ‘Especially the latter gives applicants some much-needed extra headroom to build a consortium and submit a proposal’, says Lygature’s Business Director Wim-Jan Koot.

Single-stage and two-stage calls differ in that the former involves matching industry partners from the start, whereas the latter first requires submitting a short proposal without industry partners before progressing to the second stage, submitting a full proposal with matching industry partners.

In an interview about these IHI Calls, published earlier this month, he explains how Lygature can make a difference. IHI Call 4 is a two-stage call for proposals with the following six topics:

1. Expanding translational knowledge in minipigs: a path to reduce and replace non-human primates in non-clinical safety assessment
2. Patient-centric blood sample collection to enable decentralised clinical trials and improve access to healthcare
3. Inclusive clinical studies for equitable access to clinical research in Europe
4. Establishing novel approaches to improve clinical trials for rare and ultra-rare diseases
5. Safe & sustainable by design (SSbD) packaging and single use device solutions for healthcare products
6. Sustainable circular development and manufacturing of healthcare products and their quantitative environmental impact assessment

IHI Call 5 is a single-stage call for proposals with the following four topics:

1. Accelerating the implementation of New Approach Methodologies and other innovative non-animal approaches for the development, testing and production of health technologies
2. Development and proof of principle of new clinical applications of theranostics solutions
3. Improved prediction, detection, and treatment approaches for comprehensive stroke management
4. Maximising the potential of synthetic data generation in healthcare applications
