Lygature supports request for a National Genome Programme for health
A broadly supported alliance of practitioners, researchers, professional associations, and patient organizations points out the importance of involving genetic data in prevention, diagnosis and care.
In a letter to informateur Hamer, the alliance, led by Health-RI, requests that a National Genome Programme for health be included in the coalition agreement. This is of great importance for improving prevention, diagnosis and care for common conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and also rare diseases. At the same time, it will strengthen research and innovation in public and private sectors.
The alliance considers it important that the Netherlands, in line with neighbouring countries, actively participates in the European Genome Programme 1+ Million Genomes (1+MG) as was promised by the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). The plan also covers the ethical, legal and social questions associated with the use of genetic data.
Lygature is partner in the Beyond 1 Million Genome project, which supports 1+MG.
