Support for World NTD Day & the launch of the new WHO NTD road map
On 30 January 2021, communities around the world will rally together to observe the second annual World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day. As an organization with projects focused on making a meaningful contribution to Global Health and NTD research, Lygature is proud to show its support.
This year, we not only celebrate the progress made to date in the fight against NTDs, we also celebrate the launch of the new and much-anticipated World Health Organization (WHO) NTD road map – a significant milestone in the global fight to beat NTDs. Following the incredible progress made with the implementation of the first road map, which expired on 31 December 2020, we welcome the goals set out in the new road map. We look forward to contributing to the actions needed to meet the 2030 targets through projects like the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium, which works to reduce the global disease burden caused by schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease that affects more than 240 million people worldwide.
Targeting 20 diseases, the new WHO NTD road map is structured around three key pillars that will support global efforts to control, eliminate and eradicate NTDs. A formal digital launch event will take place on Thursday 28 January 2021, adding momentum to the 30 January celebration of World NTD Day.
You can also show your support for World NTD Day by signing up and sharing information through your local networks. By engaging in the right activities and actions, significant progress can be made in the fight against NTDs.
