MOMENTUM project celebrates five years with significant progress
The Lygature-coordinated MOMENTUM project, a cross-Atlantic collaboration aimed at advancing MR-guided radiation therapy for common types of cancer, has achieved significant new milestones. Since its launch in 2019, MOMENTUM has grown from 10 to 21 partners and has now registered over 5,000 patients.
Innovative cancer treatment with MR-Linac
The MR-Linac, a state-of-the-art machine combining Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging and Radiation Therapy (RT), allows for precise tumor targeting and irradiation. The MOMENTUM project, formally known as Multiple Outcome Evaluation of Radiotherapy Using the MR-Linac, is an observational study designed to track and evaluate the outcomes of this innovative treatment approach.
Participants enrolled in the study provide invaluable data to advance the technical development and evidence-based implementation of MR-Linac technology. Each patient’s clinical and technical data and their quality of life are meticulously recorded to determine the effectiveness of MR-Linac therapy. This data will ultimately guide the treatment of different tumor types and identify which patients benefit most from this approach.
The importance of an independent enabler
Lygature has played a pivotal role in managing the MOMENTUM project. Our contributions include setting up the governance structure, drafting consortium agreements, and helping to expand the partnership network from 10 to 21 partners across 9 countries globally.
Commenting on our position in the project, Dr. John P. Christodouleas, SVP of Medical Affairs & Clinical Research at Elekta said: “Lygature has been indispensable for helping us organize and manage our complex international academic-industrial collaboration. At each step of our project, Lygature has served as a trusted advisor and manager that can draw on a diverse set of resources within the organization. We are very thankful that we got them involved in our mission.”
With the project now extended for another 2 ½ years, MOMENTUM is set to continue its mission to improve tumor control, survival rates, and the quality of life for cancer patients worldwide. Lygature remains committed to providing expertise in partnership management, data infrastructure, and project monitoring to ensure the project’s continued success.
