Mission

The RADAR-AD project aimed to revolutionize the assessment and care of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by leveraging remote monitoring technologies. Building upon the work of RADAR-CNS, which developed innovative methods for monitoring major depressive disorder, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis using wearable devices and smartphone technology, RADAR-AD sought to apply similar approaches to AD. The goal was to enable continuous, real-time tracking of functional decline in individuals with AD, facilitating earlier and more personalized interventions.

Vision

RADAR-AD envisioned a future where remote assessment technologies were seamlessly integrated into clinical practice, providing clinicians with objective, real-time data to monitor disease progression in AD patients. This approach aspired to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with AD by enabling timely and tailored care strategies, similar to the advancements achieved in other neurological disorders through RADAR-CNS.

Strategy

To achieve its mission and vision, RADAR-AD established a comprehensive strategy that encompassed:

• Development of Remote Monitoring Technologies: Creating and refining digital tools to capture functional decline indicators in AD patients, drawing from the methodologies developed in RADAR-CNS.
• Patient-Centric Approach: Involving patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other stakeholders throughout the project to ensure the relevance and acceptability of the technologies developed.
• Collaborative Research: Engaging an international consortium of academic and industrial partners to leverage diverse expertise in the development and implementation of remote monitoring solutions.
• Ethical and Practical Considerations: Addressing potential challenges related to the use of remote monitoring technologies by consulting with various stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers, to anticipate and resolve issues proactively.

By adhering to this strategy, RADAR-AD aimed to pioneer advancements in the remote assessment of Alzheimer's disease, ultimately improving patient outcomes and care delivery.
